Africa remains the best continent for not only mankind but also all leaving creatures. It is the best place to live. Africa is Gold. Africa is naturally endowed with great lakes, rivers, mountains, caves, wild and domestic animals, all sorts of minerals, favorable climate and fertile soils.
In most parts of Africa, fertilizers are not so required to grow food for a household. Food is organic foods, not to talk of wild edible fruits which are also abundant. Irrigation is not an essential requirement either and where it is necessary, water is so available to address the challenge. In other words food, and I mean fresh food, is easily available for those ready to till the land.
Living in Africa requires no much money to survive. If you need accommodation you cut trees put, the house together and sleep. In the villages, water flows purely from underground, you wash your hands, tap and drink no need for cooking. Where cooking is necessary, firewood is so available especially for rural communities. This means that with or without electricity you can always cook a meal. Food is very much available and in organic form. Most of the money you need is mainly for clothing, health (though you can also use herbs freely for medicine) and basic education. In other words, a person who living in Africa is richer than one living in say in Europe, America or Middle East.
Yes, in Africa you can live a life which an average rich person elsewhere yarns for and which an average poor person in Europe or America will never enjoy. This is because money at a certain level of lifestyle is not a necessity. You can live with as little as you have. No wonder foreign currencis especially dollars, Euros and Paunds are gold in Africa. Five thousand dollars will give you ownership of a plot of land, imagine. For the Euro you can even buy a plot and build a two roomed house with the same amount. Reason, life is cheap and abundant. You would not buy the same in the countries where these currences originate.
So then are Africans poor as portrayed or not? By the way, this concept of poverty is appropriately applied in Africa. In my country a person is said to be below the poverty line if he or she earns or spends less than a dollar a day. Okay, assuming this is a right measure, how would you apply this to an African? For most of the people in Africa rent is free, people sleep in their own houses. They consume their own grown food and treat themselves using herbs. So how much does each individual spend? A homestead of most of African owns at least a goat, chicken, cow, sheep, duck etc. and sometimes a combination of these. Most importantly they own land. So how rich or poor are they? Do they have a dollar a day or not? Are they properly categorized? I would say no, Africans are richer than we are made to believe.
